We like to think that our auction is perhaps one of the most unique that you could possibly attend. Where else do you sport your finest hiking boots while sipping delightful wines and bidding on adventures in Big Sur and beyond?

Auction proceeds help make this Festival possible, and benefit many Big Sur non-profits and schools that are vital to the health and character of our community. Over the last four years, the Festival has donated over $100,000 to local nonprofits in the areas of Health, Safety, Education and the Arts, among other worthy recipients.

THE CARMEL EXPERIENCE – L’AUBERGE, DINNER, WINERY VISITS WITH TRJ

L’Auberge Carmel is a member of the finest collection of luxury hotels in the world – Relais et Chateaux, where only the highest standards of comfort, elegance and service prevail. David Fink, owner of L’Auberge has been a long-time hotelier with a gift for guest satisfaction. A co-founder of the Masters of Food and Wine at the Highlands Inn, David recently created the GourmetFest Carmel, which brings in world-class chefs and wineries to Carmel. He also lived in Big Sur for a number of years, and enthusiastically supports community endeavors.

David has exceptionally generously donated a two night stay at this remarkably comfortable European-styled pension. And while you’re here, let Toby take you around the Carmel area for some fun wine tasting experiences, replete with lunch out in the Valley. For dinner, you’re going to sit down at the intimate and truly lovely La Balena, owned by Anna and Emanuele Bartolini, right in the heart of Carmel. A local favorite, La Balena has been on the culinary scene for the last three years, and their Italian style, as manifested by chef Brad Briske is authentic and fun…

 

GEORIS TRIPLED!

A rather sweet stroke of luck befell Belgian import Damien Georis when he came to California, and in particular this beautiful area. He found himself a position as a cellar rat, working for a family by the same name, but who are completely unrelated! Now winemaker at Georis cellars and subsequently making his own Madeleine wines, Damien has garnered a solid reputation as a winemaker of note, in an area blessed with some pretty powerful vintners.

Gaston and Sheila Georis have lived in Big Sur for many years now, and their property and gorgeous Mickey Muennig home were spared the devastating fire that swept over Pfeiffer Ridge last Christmas. This will be your home for one evening, as they welcome you warmly into this truly unique house, designed by the magical and charismatic architect.

And the third part of the soirée is none other than Gabe Georis (son of Gaston and Sheila) who has worked in the restaurant business since a small lad (though he was most likely never a small lad – he’s substantially tall and gregarious!), and is owner of the highly respected Mundaka in the heart of Carmel. Gabe will bring his chef Brandon Miller for a repast that will boggle your gustatory mind.

PAM CONANT DINNER

Pam and Howie Conant have called Big Sur their second home for a number of years now, and they spend a lot of time here when they are not in their native city of Chicago. They have integrated themselves into this delicate community with ease and joy, not to mention a broad and wild sense of humor and have done a great deal to help local nonprofits. In this vein, they are opening their beautiful and modern home, designed by the late

CHEF CAL!

Chef Cal Stamenov is undoubtedly one of America’s finest chefs, for many reasons. Quietly and efficiently, he has helped raise the bar for dining excellence in the Carmel/Monterey area. As executive chef at the Highlands Inn, he helped oversee many Masters of Food and Wine events, before moving to the gorgeous Bernardus Resort, in the depths of Carmel Valley. Cal has been a dear close friend for many years, and he eagerly steps forward to help us each year at our own Festival.

For this year, Cal has offered to cook a dinner for 6 lucky guests at the home of X

 

SANTA FE WINE AND CHILE FIESTA 2015 – 25 YEARS OF NEW MEXICO!

The Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta is without a doubt, one of the finest events of its kind in the country. For 14 years, Toby has traveled there to help oversee a number of the events, which are always unique and exceptionally well-attended. This gracious offering from director, Greg O’Byrne includes a three nights at the glorious Hotel Santa Fe, located just on the edge of downtown. This will be the 25th Anniversary of this festival and will include two (2) tickets to the following:

Reserve Tasting – to include a Silent Auction, this event brings over 80 wineries at the El Dorado Hotel

Live Auction Luncheon – Also held at the El Dorado, this auction features local and visiting renowned chefs and about 30 lifestyle and wine collection items.

2 Seminars of Choice – the wine seminars are held at the historic La Fonda Hotel, right on the Plaza, and they are always sold out. Take your choice of two of the 8 seminars and learn more than you could possibly wish for!

Grand Tasting – This massive and phenomenal event sells out in literally minutes. Located at the Santa Fe Opera, it is a glorious afternoon including 200 wineries and 100 chefs – an afternoon of splendiferous hedonism!

 

PISONI TRIP

Who doesn’t know Gary Pisoni? Or at least heard of his penchant for making superior Pinot Noir and being perhaps one of the wildest men on the planet?

Well, once again, he is stepping up to the plate with a lunch and afternoon/evening barbeque for as many people as you wish to bring. No doubt partner in crime Gary Franscioni will show up to join in the festivities as we move from a drive through the vineyards in the green Jeep to the lovely cellar and massive fireplace for a sit-down dinner to perhaps beat all dinners in terms of ribald and wild celebration of life!

YOU MIGHT LEAVE YOUR HEART IN OUR FAVORITE CITY – A SAN FRANCISCO EXPERIENCE FOR TWO NIGHTS

San Francisco is without a doubt one of the most romantic cities in the world, with an absolutely world-class culinary reputation. And leading the charge are the amazing ethnic inspirations, especially our friends from Dhosa and 1300 Fillmore. Coincidentally just 5 blocks from each other in the hot new “Jazz District” of Lower Fillmore, both restaurants spotlight the amazing diversity of The City’s food scene. David Lawrence of 1300 Fillmore has graciously supported the Festival for the last three years, and is always excited to be with us. Originally from the UK and Caribbean, and inspired by Louisiana (yes, we asked the same question: huh?) and Cajun cuisine, 1300 his menu is eclectic yet has this lovely Caribbean feel to it. If he’s there that evening in his Speak-Easy ambiance, we’ll make sure that Chef David comes out to say hello….

And Dhosa? Oh goodness, Indian cuisine taken to new heights in a contemporary and thoroughly stylish and definitely delicious, spicy and sexy manner!

So, take your pick, as you’ll be staying two nights at the Grande Dame of hotels – the stately St. Francis, right on Union Square. She’s survived the ’06 earthquake, visits by Queen Elizabeth, the Stones, among countless other luminaries and more recently, friends and family of Robin Williams for his memorial. You’ll enjoy San Francisco, we’re quite sure!

HIKING WITH STEMWARE IN 2015 FOR FOUR

At some point during the calendar year of 2015 (Chinese year of the Hike, we’ve been told), please join Aengus and Toby as we take you high into the hills of Big Sur on a private property, replete with a lunch and wines from the Festival cellar. Make sure to get your hiking boots ready, and your muscles in shape, as this won’t be for sissies… Who knows what surprises will be in store? We might just see condors, red-tailed hawks, whales, and you’ll certainly have a better understanding of the natural Big Sur

MAGNUM COLLECTION

The wine industry as a whole is perhaps the most generous of any kind. Beyond coming to events such as ours and pouring their limited and often special wines, they make substantial donations of many different kinds. Our invited vintner friends are no exception, and part of this generosity is manifested in the form of large formats that they have generously given us in order to raise funds for local nonprofits. Here, for your collection, is a rather incredible gathering of magnums.

2 NIGHTS AT TREEBONES WITH SUSHI, DINNER AND WINE FROM BSFWF

The Handy family have once again stepped up to the plate! Their ongoing generosity to not just the Festival, but the community overall is, to say the least, remarkable. John and his two boys, Luke and X, have been unflagging members of the Big Sur Volunteer Fire Brigade for many years now, and John has valiantly raised funds and awareness of the five local schools here, as well as worked tirelessly to keep big Sur as a place of great natural beauty. To wit, their TreeBones Resort is now recognized as an industry leader in eco-tourism. Their innovative and exceptionally beautiful property has been saluted the world over and for good reason – the quality of rooms, service and food all combine to create a unique experience.

Enjoy a two night stay courtesy of John and Corinne, and experience their lovely two dining options –the gorgeous sushi bar with a view of the ocean, and then dinner in the lovely main dining room, and then sleep in a simple yet thoroughly elegant yurt. Thank you John and Corinne for everything!

ONE NIGHT AT VENTANA WITH DINNER FOR TWO

Internationally recognized Ventana Inn and Spa has been a fixture here on the Big Sur coast for over 30 years, and has received, rightfully, many accolades during this time. They recently brought in a new and highly respected Chef – Paul Corsentino, who is a master chef, and who has re-vamped the menu at one of America’s most beautiful resorts. The dining room at Ventana has also been recently refurbished, and we absolutely love it there! So, enjoy a brilliant meal, and then take advantage of one of their beautifully appointed rooms, slip into the Japanese-styled baths, or take a swim in one of the two swimming pools, or simply relax your troubles away.
