Enjoy the wines of over 30 producers as Lexus presents the Pinot Walkabout in our Chef’s Garden. Meet the winemakers themselves as they pour their latest releases for you to taste and enjoy. Chef John Cox of Post Ranch’s Sierra Mar Restaurant will be joined by Justin Everett of Murray Circle to their sister property, Cavallo Point to bring you a stunning array of culinary delights to accompany these great wines.

A porcine celebration not to be missed! This will be the third Wine and Swine, where we nosh on several different and wildly divergent preparations of piggy while enjoying delicious Brew Master beer provided by Firestone Walker Brewing Company, world class wines from August West Wine, Big Basin Vineyards, Chanin Wine, Cold Heaven Cellars, Copain Wines, Drew Wines, Jaffurs Wine Cellars, Margerum Wines, Louis-Roederer MMD Champagn , Paul Lato Wines, Perception Wines, Pride Mountain Wines, Scribe Wines, Tablas Creek Wines, Tolosa Winery & Wind Gap Wines in an evening of delicious debauchery! This year marks the return of our beloved friend – Jonathan Roberts aka The Pig Wizard, who will deftly show the gathered guests how to dismantle a piggy in a way that is educational, fun and visually enlightening! Your emcee for the evening will be none other than national TV host and star, Todd Fisher of the hit show United States of Bacon. Said piggy (or piggies, as the case might well be) will be auctioned off at the end of the butchering demo, and you could end up with enough puerco to see you through the winter! No pyrotechnics, no guitar-smashing histrionics, no sequined costumes, no smoke, no mirrors. Just honest musicianship and a crowd inspired to to rise up off their ass and dance! Good music, raw in its honesty and fun ~ you’ll find it all in the Darktown Rounders. Influenced by traditional American genres–blues, country, swing and early rock and roll–the Darktown Rounders’ performances show the band’s deep love and respect for the music and for one another. They bring freshness, originality and an infectious energy to all these forms, designed to bring even the most reluctant dancers to their feet. The Darktown Rounders feature former members of famous (and infamous) acts including: Wayne “the Train” Hancock, Danni Leigh, Lovers and Strangers, and Sex Farm. Friday evening begins at Sierra Mar as we present four of the San Francisco Bay Area’s finest chefs, including our own Chef John Cox. Chef Cox welcomes Chef Rocky Maselli from A16 in Oakland, Chef Suzette Gresham of Acquarello in San Francisco and Chef Jeff Fitzgerald of Dio Deka in Los Gatos. Move around the restaurant sampling dishes from each of these amazing chefs alongside a specially paired wine of their choice and additional offerings from Hirsch Winery along the Sonoma Coast. Rounding out the evening is cheese selections from The Cheese Shop in nearby Carmel and some delectable oysters from Saltwater Oyster Bar & Restaurant up the coast in Inverness. The Big Sur Bakery is a perfect gem set in the heart of Big Sur, and exemplifies what we have promoted all along with the Festival – that Big Sur is a culinary destination. Since opening some ten years ago, chefs Michelle Rizzolo and Philip Wojtowicz and their founding partner, Mike Gilson, have been showered with accolades from literally around the globe. And no wonder – their food is inspirational, the setting is stunning, and we are delighted to call them our good friends. They’ve invited ROAR Wines, featuring Winegrower Gary Franscioni who will pair up with Chef Phil to present the amazing wines of his Santa Lucia estate. Over the last four years, the Festival has donated over $100,000 to local nonprofits in the areas of Health, Safety, Education and the Arts, among other worthy recipients. We have also raised funds to help pay substantial expenses for a local young woman to attend the CIA in New York, who is now under the tutelage of Chef Cal Stamenov at the highly acclaimed Bernardus Lodge. Last year, the highlight was the chance to take a day hike with Aubert de Villaine, owner of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, and then enjoy dinner with him. This is the ONLY auction that he supports in this manner, and he will offer it again this year, which pleases us to no end. We’ll also have two nights at Ventana Inn with dinner and spa treatment, two tickets to the 30th Annual Central Coast Wine Classic, a couple of nights at the Saint Francis Hotel in glorious San Francisco, a special collection of wines, dinners at private homes here in Big Sur, two nights at the stunning Post Ranch Inn, and so much more! The Big Sur Roadhouse and Big Sur Food & Wine Festival’s own Matt Peterson, will be featuring a Night of Somms at the Big Sur Roadhouse. These gifted Sommeliers include Ted Glennon of Restaurant 1833, Thomas Perez of Kristi Lynn Wines, Jeff Bareilles of Manresa, Jeff Birkemeier, Wine Director of Casanova in Carmel who are on hand to stimulate and educate even the most experienced wine connoisseurs about the hidden gems among wines. The dinner will inspire a lively discussion about new wine regions, decanting, tricks of the trade and you’ll enjoy a blind tasting and learn about sabering Champagne. You’ll enjoy the Inspired setting of the Big Sur Roadhouse where the inside-out design includes large spacious windows fronting Highway 1, furnishings and floors set in warm redwood and bamboo, and creative use of copper accents. This is one of the most pristine properties in all of Big Sur! From truly majestic ocean views to the cathedral of the redwoods, this will be the third year that our dear friends have given us permission to lead only 30 guests up a steep climb, lead by the property caretaker, who also owns property adjacent. A quick snack after the hike into the canyon and its magical light play between the enormous redwoods, and then back for a gorgeous lunch prepared by Ted Walter of Passionfish along side Ryme Wine Cellars and hand wines provided by the property owners Ask anyone who has done this hike, and they’ll tell you that for the great effort, it’s absolutely worth it! $175
